The Soothsayer Gair

Shortly after the war began, the Night Prophet Etosh was killed in battle. A successor had to be chosen, and there were two contenders - Buccarthy and Kieran. Both were young, both ambitious... and equal in strength. High Priest Memaer decided this: let the young Night Shadows fight Etosh's shadow. Whoever defeats it will become the new Prophet. Although it was not easy, both Night Shadows defeated the shadow of their predecessor. The priests had no choice but to offer the contenders a duel. During the duel with the shadow, Kieran watched Buccarthy closely and realized that he was slightly stronger than he was... and decided not to tempt fate, but to bend it to his will.
