In-game tips

Ever see those little gameplay tips in blue letters that flash across the top of your screen when you first begin the game? Those are sure helpful. But sometimes they move too fast or don't leave enough explanation, so here's a list of them all for you to take your time going over and understanding. They're in no particular order. Each tip or group of related tips has more information about that topic written below it.

You can teleport to other zones at a teleporter.

Teleporters are the only way to move between zones. Zones are most commonly referred to as "maps." There are five main maps, six public dungeons, four personal dungeons, a guild hall, and a quiz room that may be teleported into. Some of these zones have certain requirements that must be met before they may be accessed. You can get smelting stones by hunting monsters or transmuting armor and weapons.
Visit the Transmuter to turn useless armor and weapons into refining stones.
You can use smelting stones to upgrade your items.

Smelting Stones are the most basic type of stone used for upgrading your equipment. When you upgrade equipment it becomes "plussed" and receives a +1 at the end of its name. This means that the base attack or defense of the equipment piece has been upgraded a little. Smelting Stones are gotten from transmuting armors or weapons via the Transmuter. When transmuted, they retain the level of the equipment piece they were; they may only be applied to equipment of an equal or lower level. Smelting Stones have a 33% chance of upgrading your piece of equipment +1. There are other types of Smelting Stones with higher chances of success. HP and MP will regenerate faster when sitting.

When you first start a character, your "Sit" action will be placed in slot 6 (or slot 7 for Healers) of your Shortcut bar. When you hit the hotkey assigned to it, F6, or press its icon with your mouse cursor, your character will sit. HP and MP regenerate significantly faster and in greater amounts when sitting, so this is a very good thing to get in the habit of doing when you have finished a fight. Different character classes have their HP and MP regeneration increased different amounts by sitting; some more than others. Your HP and MP will also regenerate when standing or when fighting, however the amount regenerated is very tiny.

Equip or use items by double-clicking them.
You can zoom in and out with the mouse scroll.
You can adjust the camera view with the direction keys.

There are two other ways, too, that you can zoom in/out and move your camera. They are: the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys to control your zoom, and the right mouse button to rotate your camera angle.

To whisper, type [ ! ] followed by the character name and then your message.

Whispers are in-game private messages (PMs). They allow you to have private one-on-one conversations with other players on the same server as you. The range of the Whisper function is not limited; that is, you may talk to anyone anywhere on the server through it. This is one of the six different types of chat. The other chats are General (no function), Party (@), Guild (#), Transaction ($), General Channel (&), Trade Channel (*) and Shout (%). Note that the Trade Channel (*) chat costs 10 gold per character. There is also System chat, but it is for system messages and not players. To send a Whisper, type "!name message", replacing the name with your receiver's name and the message with your desired message. Names must be spelled out all the way and spelled correctly. Whispers both sent and received by you will appear in your chat box in yellow.

You can access the personal dungeon at level 5.

The personal dungeon is the solo-player side of the game. When you begin the game you start in one of the personal dungeons called the Dungeon of Straia. There are four other dungeons available to you throughout the game. You may start going into the first one, Hunt for the Balrog, at level 5. Equipment

I just saw this reddish-pink message in my System chat box that said something about blood and seals. What's that about?

When you have fought for a certain amount of time with any piece of equipment, you will unlock a Bloodseal slot on it. Bloodseal slots allow you to use Bloodseal Gems on that equipment piece to give it a special added bonus stat. Bloodseal Gems may be bought from general merchant NPCs. In Randol City, that NPC is Merchant Geres. At low-levels ( < 25 ) you go through armor fairly quickly, so adding bloodseals to your equipment pieces is not necessary. However, in the mid- and high-levels, bloodseals and their bonuses become invaluable and equipment pieces with impressive seals sell for quite a bit.

You may have up to 3 bloodseals on any armor piece and up to 5 bloodseals on any weapon. Once all your Bloodseal slots are filled, you can wipe the equipment clean (remove the bloodseals) and try again, if you like, by using a Purification Gem. These may also be purchased from general merchant NPCs.

I've got this piece of equipment that's above my level. When can I use it?

You are allowed to use armor pieces up to 5 levels higher than you and weapons up to 4 levels higher than you. However, level 73 and higher equipments cannot be equipped below their level unless they have an "Reduced Level Requirement" bloodseal on them.

You may equip armor pieces more than 5 levels higher and weapons more than 4 levels higher, however if you do this you will receive pretty heavy defense and attack penalties. For example, if you equip one armor piece that is 6 levels higher than you, your total defense will be reduced by 50%. If you equip a weapon that is 8 levels higher than you, your total attack will be reduced by 70%. The more out of your range a piece of equipment is, the greater the penalty on it will be (possible penalties are 50%, 70%, 90%).

Where can I get new weapons and armor for myself?

There are several different ways to get new equipment for your character. They are:

Buying the equipment from the weapon/armor trader NPCs in a town
Buying the equipment from the shop of another player
Trading with another player for the equipment
Receiving the equipment as a drop from a monster you kill
Winning the equipment from the Moon Statue
Crafting the equipment yourself

The weapon and armor traders are located just east of the north gate and only sell equipment from level 5 through 32. See the drop lists page for more information on which creatures drop what. Why doesn't the NPC sell equipment for my class?

The equipment you're looking for may simply be further down on the list of items in the NPC's shop. There is a thin scrollbar to the right of the list of items -- use it!

What does upgrading my equipment do for me and why should I do it?

Upgrading is a great way to improve your equipment! Upgrading adds extra attack (for weapons) or defense (for armor). Also, certain levels have extra effects to improve your equipment more. The weapon upgrade page shows how much your weapon can be improved and more info on the special effects. The armor upgrade page shows how much your armor can be improved and more on the special effects. Also, upgraded weapons and armor have visual effects.

What's that little pet fairy thing for? How do I get it?

When you upgrade all your armor (except the head piece) to +4 or higher then you will have this fairy appear. The more the armor is upgraded, the bigger the fairy will be. The fairy itself does nothing. See here for how the fairy looks like for the various upgrade levels.
