In the lower levels of the Industrial Colossus - a giant factory-city - something terrible is happening. The Eternal Gear Corporation has implemented a new "efficiency program": Slave managers. They are not just overseers. These are former engineers whose brains have been brainwashed by algorithms and whose bodies have been reinforced with mechanical implants. They control slave workers, squeezing the last juices out of them under the motto: "Productivity is freedom." In recent weeks, 40 such "managers" have driven entire workshops to suicide.
